Suzanne Morrison LCSW
I’m Suzanne Morrison LCSW. I’ve always believed that even in our most painful moments, there can be space for meaning, growth – and yes, even laughter. One of my favorite movie quotes is from Steel Magnolias, when Dolly Parton’s character says, “Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.” It captures the bittersweet truth that sometimes, the most healing moments come wrapped in both sorrow and joy. As a therapist, I walk alongside people navigating transitions – grief, loss, identity shifts – holding space for both the tears and the laughter that often surprise us along the way.
In our sessions, we’ll take things one step at a time. Maybe we start with what’s hardest right now, or with what’s been tangled up inside for a long while. I use a strengths-based, individualized approach rooted in compassion, perspective-shifting, and practical tools. My hope is that you leave our time together feeling lighter and more grounded – whether from a new coping strategy, a powerful insight, or simply the relief of being understood. My background includes years of experience in hospice care – sitting bedside with patients, supporting families through anticipatory grief, and later walking with them in bereavement. I’ve also worked extensively with adolescents and adults navigating complex life stories. These experiences taught me that people are imperfect, relationships are complicated, and there’s no “right” way to grieve. That’s why I offer space for all of it – the love, the regret, the confusion, the hope.
Starting therapy can feel like stepping into uncharted territory. You may be here because life took a turn you didn’t see coming, or because everything you thought you knew no longer feels solid. Whether you’re grieving a person, a job, a relationship, or a version of yourself, I want you to know that you don’t have to navigate alone. My approach is both supportive and gently challenging – I’ll be here to listen and nurture, and also to nudge you toward new ways of thinking and being that can bring light into your darkness. If you’ve ever thought “I should be strong enough to get through this on my own,” – reach out today. I’ll gently remind you: you don’t have to forge your own path. I’ve been in these woods before, and I’d be honored to walk with you.
Favorite Books
I often recommend The Collected Regrets of Clover – a deeply touching story of a woman shaped by grief and love. It highlights the subtle ways loss influences the course of our lives. I love the quiet reminder that our stories matter, and that it’s never too late to rediscover who we are.
Hobbies
When I’m not supporting clients, you’ll likely find me lakeside with my family, lost in a good book, or curled up with my rescue pups and a new crochet project. I love creating things with my hands – it’s grounding, meditative, and reminds me that beautiful things take time.
Funny Story
Last summer while we were on vacation, my best friend plotted with my daughter to get a house key for a prank. She said she was coming over to pick some tomatoes from my garden in case I saw her on my Ring camera. It never occurred to me how she got a key to my house, or why she was inside my house to pick tomatoes from the backyard. When we got home, I found little, tiny plastic ducks literally everywhere. Everywhere! 265 to be exact. On light fixtures, in the silverware drawer, in the frig, in the washing machine, inside pockets of winter jackets, toes of wool socks, the shower, inside my liquid soap, in my work bag. Seriously e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e!!! Nearly a year later I was still finding them. Ha!
